Challenges and User Research
Initially, the website faced several problems: the navigation was cluttered with too many similar options, intrusive ads were hindering the user experience, and there was a noticeable difficulty in downloading route information, which was essential for professional users. Feedback from these users highlighted the need for a more intuitive and efficient navigation system.
Redesign Strategy
The redesign focused on decluttering the navigation by organizing features more logically and removing unnecessary ones, which made the website easier to navigate. Visual improvements were also made to make the site more appealing and user-friendly. A significant upgrade was the introduction of a clear and easily accessible route download button, along with route customization options aimed at meeting the specific needs of professional drivers.
Results and Benefits
The updated ViaMichelin site now offers a better user experience with a streamlined layout and minimized distractions. The enhancements in the route download feature have been particularly beneficial for professional users, leading to increased satisfaction and more frequent site usage.
Conclusion
The ViaMichelin website redesign project, carried out as an academic exercise for Ironhack, demonstrates the vital role of design and functional improvements in improving user experience. While the new website has not been officially launched, this project offers insights into creating more user-centered web designs by simplifying navigation and customizing features to cater to user needs, significantly enhancing usability and user satisfaction.
